Clinical Psychologist

Lucas is an experienced clinical psychologist, having worked in hospital, private practice, and research settings. He has an undergraduate degree in psychology and anthropology and a master’s degree and PhD in clinical psychology. His postgraduate research has focused on the development and implementation of mindfulness and compassion-based interventions in community and acute mental health inpatient settings.

Lucas sees patients across the life spectrum, ranging from late adolescence to elderly. In addition to completing formalised diagnostic assessments, he sees individuals seeking treatment for a range of issues, including (but not limited to):

  • Anxiety disorders, such as generalised anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder
  • Mood disorders, including depression and bipolar affective disorder
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • PTSD and trauma-based presentations
  • Interpersonal/Relationship challenges
  • Addiction and substance use disorders
  • ADHD
  • Problematic eating behaviours, such as binge eating and bulimia
  • Complex mental health
  • Personality disorders
  • Diagnostic assessments for ADHD and autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • Cognitive assessments, including for cognitive decline

Lucas has a relaxed, flexible, curious, down to earth approach to treatment. He believes in holistic, individualised care and strives to tailor treatment to best suit your needs and situation. He recognises that seeking help can be challenging and anxiety provoking for some and attempts to meet this with understanding and compassion. Lucas works collaboratively often utilising the following evidence-based treatment frameworks:

  • Mindfulness and Compassion based interventions

Lucas is a member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association and a STAP approved psychologist supervisor. He has previously published research in the areas of mindfulness, self-compassion, return to work after injury, and young adult attachment styles and enjoys keeping up to date with new and developing treatment options, with the aim of achieving the best possible outcomes for the people he works alongside.
